One morning, I woke to realize that I exist I woke to
realize that I wasn't just a
biological construction capable of
carrying out all those characteristics of living things
that was drummed into our brains
in our high school days. Me myself just like you, him, her and
every other being alive come to this realization at some point in our lives, some at a very tender age while that of others came a bit later. but it was only then in
that moment when we gained consciousness of our being that our lives truly began.
Its
said that life's a gift, a gift because no one worked to have it or
choose to possess it. We all found ourselves entrusted with it. It’s a gift of nature some say, No! it’s a gift from loving parents,
yet many believe it’s a gift from God. If now we pretend that we've all agree on this point and forge ahead. We begin to ask: why?. why Where we
entrusted with this gift called life, perhaps we alone can answer this question satisfactorily, Although its would seam quite easier to answer towards the end of our lives than at the beginning.
Life as we know it is not just breadth and blood, life is
the vessel that encapsulates meaning, and meaning is
what everyone hope to attach to their lives because
otherwise this gift of life would seam a burden, a burden of troubles and challenges,
misery and hardships. Perhaps not for all but for a number of people who’s own
bundle of the gift of life took
them to a place harsh, unfriendly, ungodly, or undesirable. If we attach
meaning to life, meaning to the
activities that form the block of our lives then only then can we say we've had
life. Yes! there are fun things to do, memories to keep, and people to love,
but the meaning of life overshadows it all. so pause for just a minute and ask yourself...
What meaning
does my life have?
A good
question, but a better puzzle to solve goes thus: what meaning am I allowing my life to
have? A good meaning or bad one? yes we
allow our lives to have meaning by the things we allow in our lives, by the
choices we make that eventually make us, and by the
environment we create first in us and then around us.
Its best we
always remember certain things will never change: life in this earthly body is
a diminishing commodity. We may have it preserved greatly by the measure
of care we give our earthly vessel and by consciously adding meaning to it or we can
waste it with the pursuit of obscene
tendencies. Yet life continues to reach its end, ebbing away even if we don’t want it to... even if we don’t want it to!!
Now smile! smile because we have a choice, a choice
given by to us by time and grace. Time gives us opportunities to add life to our years, not just years to our lives. It allows us to add
meaning and fun and love and knowledge and all the good things we
can imagine. But grace, Grace allows us to extend our lives even beyond the limit of the frailty
afforded by our earthen vessel. Grace allows us to redeem otherwise meaningless
lives in a flash, a second of redemption, to turning a new leaf and start life anew. Now even now will you? will you give your life all it requires?
I ask again what is life ?
...life is what we make of it.
