sleep is indispensable
Sleep
Earlier today I was over the phone with a friend we've known each other for a while and have a valuable friendship as we spoke she went on to tell me how engrossed she was with her passion of late and how of recent she had been keeping late nights. If she had told me this some months ago I would have been totally impressed I'll give her a pat on the back and say "you go gurl" bravo! After all It was Henry Wadsworth Longfellow who wrote:
"The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night.
It was a habit of mine through the years and yes it does have some merit but, I choose instead to toe a different line rather than cheer her on, I tried to persuade her otherwise, in the hope that she breaks the habit of sleepless nights before it takes a grip on her way of life. After our conversation I also felt it was wise to share my reasons here so everyone can glean a thing or two.
My reason is simple; Your sleep is important! it's so important that it's indispensable.. So, even if you had no desire to sleep, you'll still have to! hopefully, sooner rather than later. It's no news that there's a disorder called insomnia which is simply the inability to sleep and this had varying degrees of seriousness from mild insomnia to severe insomnia .
If Peradventure a person is unable able to sleep for 11 days they'll simply drop dead but no one wants to die. All the same by depriving yourself of sleep consistently under the guise of work or fun or any other "reasonable" excuse all you are really doing is digging a sleepy grave for your very self all by yourself! maybe you won't drop dead and no one wants that to happen but lack of sleep is suicide your all the same!
It becomes easier to understand when you think of the human body as a system which it really is. Just like the automobile, the generating set or a factory production plant the human body is a system made up of numerous parts much more than we could possibly count and like any system it requires periodic maintenance, which in this case is comes in form of sleep.
You'll agree with me that without proper maintenance the systems I mentioned earlier will eventually break down and this is also true about our body as well, which is why we need enough sleep time when we can rest and have our body repair itself, heal wounds, replace exhausted resources and so forth. So wat happens when we skip this all important maintenance session?
well our body suffers for it and if this continues with little damages here and there that should be repaired left unrepaired or are only repaired in part then a downward spiral of decreased health level continues. It may not be visible immediately frankly speaking you hardly ever notice especially when you're young your body can take a beating and it will! but gradually it will get weaker and weaker at a faster rate than you expect and if no proper care is given it could self destruct.
when the results do start to show it might be a little too late hopefully not. Now am all for hard work alright but not at the expense of your precious sleep. Most times we work through our sleep time because we actually failed to work while we were awake. And to us we might think we are working hard putting in extra hours but then again there's little else you can't do within 12 to 18 work hours in a day. If you get down to business right when you should. Enough said about sleep this week I'll see you next week.
